Holyrood High School, Edinburgh Trainee SolicitorBalfour+Manson LLP

Biography

Scott was attracted to a legal career while a pupil at Holyrood High School in Edinburgh.  A talented student, he worked hard to gain the necessary qualifications for entry to the Law Faculty of Edinburgh University.

During his degree, Scott spent three months interning at the Mason Institute researching the ethical, legal, social and political issues arising from the relationship between medicine, life sciences and the law.

This became a strong area of interest for Scott.  Indeed, he has since co-authored articles on legal issues relating to pregnancy, childbirth and abortion.

Medical concerns also featured in the early work Scott undertook on joining the award-winning law firm Balfour+Manson LLP.  He soon gained valuable experience dealing with medical negligence and personal injury claims some of which introduced him to important aspects of court work.

Scott then moved to the firm’s Commercial team where his day-to-day work involved a wide range of commercial property and corporate transactions, as well as advising on aspects of charity law.

Scott remains delighted with his decision to pursue a career in the Law.  He recognises the important part it can play in the lives of individuals and it also offers him the great satisfaction of helping vulnerable people at very difficult times.
