Biography

Helena Kennedy is one of Britain’s best known and most respected lawyers. She has spent much of her professional life helping those with least power and, as a leading barrister, has championed civil liberties and promoted human rights.

Helena’s commitment to the least privileged in society is rooted in her Glasgow childhood. She lived in an overcrowded tenement flat where money may have been short, but she enjoyed the many benefits of growing up in a loving, working-class family which coupled fun and laughter with a deep respect for education, religion, hard work and the importance of looking after others less fortunate than yourself.

Helena has held to these principles throughout her life and has made good use of her membership of the House of Lords and her regular appearances on television to argue with passion, wit and humanity for social justice in many areas of the law including victims of medical negligence and the rights of women and children.
