Biography
It is a basic principle of the legal system in Scotland that everyone suspected of a crime is entitled to legal counsel in the form of advice and assistance from a lawyer. That right lasts throughout any investigation and subsequent court case, should one prove necessary.
As a leading criminal defence lawyer and a Solicitor Advocate, Neil plays a key role in protecting the rights and interests of individuals facing serious charges.
He is regularly instructed by law firms and other organisations to provide legal advice and representation to their clients. This may relate to police investigations and court prosecutions on a wide range of matters including serious road traffic offences, financial fraud and domestic abuse.
Thankfully, Neil is well placed to represent individuals facing such allegations due to his in-depth legal knowledge and wide experience built up over many years working at different levels within the justice system, including acting as leading counsel in the Scottish High Court.
During that time, Neil has gained an excellent reputation and is now ranked in the UK’s major legal directories as a ‘standout individual’ for his work in defending both criminal law and fraud prosecutions.
Neil is a Director of MTM Defence Lawyers, one of Scotland’s leading legal defence firms. He is also a founding member of the ground-breaking Fortis Chambers which was Scotland’s first Chambers consisting solely of Solicitor Advocates.
Despite leading a very busy life, Neil maintains a strong interest in legal education and enjoys lecturing to students at the University of Glasgow, School of Law where he himself was once a student.
