Biography
People rarely think about the law… until things go wrong. That’s when advice from a good solicitor is extremely important.
Nigel is therefore pleased that his knowledge and experience can help protect the interests of the people he represents at a time when they need it most.
The son of a pig farmer, he was attracted to a legal career while a pupil at Broxburn Academy in West Lothian where he was a talented and hardworking student, gaining the necessary qualifications to study law at Edinburgh University. Following his graduation and training he joined a specialist defence firm, Adams.
Nigel is now an expert in criminal law and a founding partner, along with Gerry Bann and Kevin Dugan, of the leading firm of Adams Whyte Criminal Defence Lawyers. The firm is very well thought of, having repeatedly been voted Scottish Criminal Law Firm of the year by peers and clients alike.
When he first meets a client, Nigel has to provide legal advice, often in a difficult and stressful situation for his client, and often where his clients innocence or liberty is directly at stake. This is when his years of experience working on a wide range of cases prove vital.
Nigel routinely acts for clients in police stations, prisons and in court in a caseload ranging from road traffic crime and fraud, through to rape, murder and Serious Organised Crime.
He considers himself lucky to have a job which he not only enjoys, but also gives him the satisfaction of helping vulnerable individuals at some of the most difficult times of their life.
Away from work, Nigel enjoys golf and watching football. He is big fan of his local Edinburgh club, Hibernian, and also follows the Scottish national team as a long-standing member of the famous ‘Tartan Army’. He says; “I’ve seen Scotland play, and occasionally score, in more than twenty countries. Great fun!”
