Biography
In recent years, the government and local authorities have spent billions of pounds on brand new schools, hospitals, wind farms, street lighting and many other public services. These have mostly been funded through complex financial packages known as PPP and PFI.
When vast sums of money are spent on such important projects, experts are required to advise the different parties involved. Stephen is an expert on the legal issues involved and has advised both private and public sector clients as well as large institutions which provide the funding.
Not surprisingly, Stephen’s work can be demanding and complex but he finds it very satisfying to help clients protect their interests. He also enjoys playing a part in helping such massive projects come to reality.
Stephen studied law at Dundee University after leaving the city’s Menzieshill High School. He became a trainee solicitor with a law firm in central Scotland and worked with some of Scotland’s top firms before joining Shepherd+Wedderburn as a Partner.
Stephen believes that good lawyers do more than simply tell clients what the law states. He feels they should offer solutions. He certainly seems to succeed in this. The important Chambers legal directory recently said Stephen is “willing to give a view rather than just tell you what the regulations say – he’ll discuss the implications and find imaginative solutions.”
